Body-safe materials

If you are unfamiliar with the platinum cure fantasy dildo niche, it is reasonable to have questions about safety of handmade toys. We hear your concerns, so here's a transparent overview of our workflow and safery procedures.

TL;DR:
- body-safe silicone, body-safe color additives
- safe work procedures –> 100% cured toys with no bubbles or other issues, Top Notch hygiene standards
For more detailed information, continue reading the article :-)

Materials

Platinum cure silicone

We use exclusively Smooth-On's Ecoflex, Dragon Skin and Near Clear platinum cure silicone because it's certified for safe skin and mucous membrane contact.

Cosmetic and non-toxic pigments and dyes

We currently use broadly speaking 3 types of additives that color the silicone:

- Cosmetic pigments and mica (certified for either lip and/or eye contact)

- Silicone dyes with skin-safe certification

- Non-toxic stroncium-encapsulated glow powders, protected by double encapsulation* (process discussed below in color additives section)

Safe work procedures

Silicone

- silicone is always degassed. There will never be any bubbles on the shaft of your toy

- there may be some tiny bubbles on the bottom of Near Clear toys as it is notoriously difficult to degass. Bubbles on the bottom of the toy pose no safety risk, as they do not come in contact with your body and small bubbles do not threaten the integrity of the toy

- all toys are properly cured. We use platinum cure silicone molds and masters that do not cause any cure inhibition

Color additives

- we make sure to add appropriate amount of color additives (mica, pigments, dye, powder). There's such a thing as "too much pigment" which could affect the properties of silicone, so we always make sure to add the right amount of additive to pose no safety risk

- the majority of powder/mica based color additives do not pose any threat to body safety by the virtue of being encapsulated in silicone. In layman terms, it means when a powder is mixed with silicone in liquid form, the silicone hardens during the curing process and the additive thus becomes encapsulated and does not come in direct contact with your body.

This is why it's generally considered safe to use color additives such as stroncium-encapsulated glow powder, which is technically non-toxic but currently does not come with body-safe certification - it is already encapsulated in stroncium and also encapsulated in the silicone. Nevertheless, if you have reservations about glow-powder, you can definitely choose colors from our palette that come from cosmetic eye/lip-safe pigments

- we strive to avoid pigment freckles. Pigment freckles pose a risk of bursting and getting a tiny amount of the color additive to come in contact with your body. Since we use body-safe mica/pigments, even if this were to happen, statistically this would result in no adverse reaction for vast majority of people. Note that glow powder poses no such risk, as it comes in powder form and does not clump into freckles.

Hygiene

- after demolding, all toys are washed with anti-bacterial soap, air-dryed and handled in gloves while being packed in heat-sealed bags for shipping

- while we have a separate workshop for toy making, we do own cats and their hair gets everywhere. We know that nobody wants to receive a toy with a cat hair stuck to it, so we always make sure to double check that no cat hair got onto a toy during the packing process. Still it's possible that we may overlook a hair one day, and we hope you'll understand we're doing our best to make sure this does not happen!

Masters

A master is a 3D printed model of the toy that we use to make a mold. If you've ever seen a 3D printed item, you'll know that they typically have visible print lines. So all of our masters go through a smoothing process to get rid of the print lines.

99% of our toys have no print lines except a faint trace on the Alien model but they are barely visible, and you definitely can't feel them (+ for the record, Alien has gone through the smoothing process as well, just needed a tiny bit of more care).
